Coming up soon: Week 13 is to be a special week at our school with activities focusing on Europe, European languages and cultures, particularly on Spain and Spanish culture, and on the international dimension in general. The week also aims to spread information about our Erasmus+ project to a wider public. There will be different types of workshops for our students as well as for pupils from some primary schools invited to participate. Some of the workshops will be carried out by foreigners from different countries (eg foreign exchange students) living in Joensuu. We will also invite our students’ family members to come and observe the activities.

The Mölkky-set donated to our Spanish partner school, made in Lyseo comprehensive school by our technical work teacher Mr Kari Litja
Check out our latest Youtube publication on a traditional game called Mölkky by class 8E. Special thanks to Kerttu Vähä, Roosa Balk and Santtu Räsänen who spent a lot of time and effort on editing the video! See:

The week (23rd -27th November 2015) was a success! It was such a pleasure to finally meet our lovely partner school teachers, Eva Sanchez Serrano, Begoña Rueda Garcia and Francesco Ruiz Andreu, in person. We chatted a lot and got to know each other better, and most importantly, we learned a great deal about each other’s schools and found out about the differences between Spanish and Finnish educational systems. The way our Spanish guests commented on Finnish schools was very flattering – makes you feel proud of what we’ve got and happy that you get to be a teacher in Finland.
We also made a lot more plans for the ongoing project for spring term and for the next school year. Four teachers from Lyseo comprehensive school will travel to Fuente Alámo in April 2016 and a group of Spanish students will visit us in October 2016.
The week also offered an exceptional opportunity for me (Virpi Snabb), as the hostess to our Spanish guests, to visit other schools in Joensuu. I wish we teachers had such opportunities more often inside our own city – it was really educating and eye-opening!
Most 7th and 8th graders from our school also had a chance to meet our guests when they gave a few lessons at our school: the students took a really nice and informative quiz on Spain and they watched some video greetings sent by the students of our partner school, IES Miguel de Cervantes. YOU CAN ACCESS ALL THESE WHEN YOU VISIT THE BLOG OF OUR PARTNER SCHOOL!
We are so happy to receive our Spanish partner school teachers from IES Miguel de Cervantes, Fuente Alámo! They arrived on Sunday evening, November 22nd, and we have an interesting week ahead of us.
